Blowtorch Restoration
In this section we will show you how we can restore a blowtorch, specifically a Swedish bronze MAX SIEVERT blowtorch, which was used by technicians who repaired telephone faults to glue the lead sheet to the connector.
We unscrew all the components from the burner (fuel tank, pump, plugs, injectors, etc.)
Then we place the parts in a basin with dishwashing detergent and lukewarm water and leave them for about half an hour. After half an hour, we rub with a sponge that we use to wash dishes and rinse them. Finally, we dry them. Next step, we take a cotton cloth and spread a thick layer of BRASSO cleaner on the metal surfaces.
After cleaning with BRASSO, apply a thin layer of special metal polishing paste and polish with a brush. After polishing, take a cotton cloth and lightly rub the metal surfaces to remove any dust residue.
The metal parts will have the specific shape after polishing.
The next step is to assemble the blowtorch. First, we place the central tube in the fuel tank. Then we place the pump tube, then the burner, then we screw the tank cap and the pump support. The next step is to screw the pump piston. Finally, we place the nozzle and screw the Bakelite flame regulator.
The only problem in the process was the loss of the sticker with the dealer who imported the blowtorches. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by the sanding and polishing.
In the photo gallery below you can see the completed restoration of the object, which took about two days. Of course, there is always the easy way to give the object to a specialized store that deals with metal polishing.
