SPAP

On October 17, 1882, the S.A. SPAP (Piraeus – Athens – Peloponnese Railway Societe Anonyme) was founded, based in Athens. It is the time when the plan of the founder of the Greek Railways, the Prime Minister Charilaos Trikoupis, comes into effect. Its priority is the development of the domestic railway network and the connection of the hinterland with the nearest major ports. The goal is the substantial independence of the country. For this reason, after all, the line from Athens to Thessaly follows the route of Bralo so that it is far from the range of English or Turkish artillery ships. They were nationalized in 1962 and joined the Railways of the Greek State (SEK), ending a historical course of 80 years in modern Greece. During the management of the railway network by SPAP, the insulators used in the telegraph network were made of white porcelain. On them were written the initials of the company with various graphic characters and colors depending on the country of manufacture. Sometimes the logo was written in Greek characters and other times in Latin characters.
