Public Telephony ,

After the establishment of AETE (Hellenic Telephone Company SA), in Greece in 1936 and the automation of telephone exchanges, the first telephone booths appeared in Athens in central parts of the capital. The public telephones (payphones) operated with coins bearing the logo of A.E.T.E. World War II failed to complete the installation of telephone booths throughout Greece. The project was undertaken by OTE in 1950. In the beginning, the public telephones operated with coins (coin phones) that now bore the OTE logo but were later replaced by drachma coins.
