Cardphones

Although belatedly in 1992 the Telecommunications Organization of Greece decided to change the way of charging in public telephony from coins to prepaid cards. Other European countries have been using this method of charging since the early 1980s. The company INTRACOM SA was the one who would supply OTE with the new prepaid phone. Two types of card receivers were introduced, the INT 100 which was a compact desktop wall phone. It was ideal for indoor supervised areas such as hotels, restaurants, hospitals, etc. The second model was the INT 200 (heavy type) placed inside semi-chambers outdoors without supervision such as squares, ports, main roads, etc. These phones can operate under the most extreme environmental conditions and withstand vandalism.
