FeTAp-0111
The 01xx telephone is the successor to the FeTAp 751. Externally, it is identical to its predecessor. Internally, however, it featured new technology. Built onto a single circuit board, it included an electronic ringer and redial functionality; in addition to pulse dialing (IWV), it now supported DTMF tone dialing (MFV). The ringer volume is adjusted via a rotary knob on the bottom right side of the device. It was manufactured under four designations depending on its functions: 0111, 0162, 01LX, and 0164. Until the mid-1980s, the device was referred to by the abbreviation FeTAp; subsequently, the designation changed to “Tel.” In addition to their version code, many of the new models were given a city name. The final device was the Tel 01, named “Stralsund,” released in 1992; a special edition named “Barcelona” was also produced for the Olympic Games. The Tel 01 LX was released in early 1989 and represented the final stage in the development of this legendary telephone. It featured a 16-key keypad used to manage the device’s functions and services. It supported both pulse and tone dialing. Depending on the manufacturer—Siemens, SEL, Heibl, FMV, or Widmaier—the device’s functions were configured using different switches and keys, and components were positioned differently on the circuit board or even distributed across separate boards. Even the screws vary from one manufacturer to another. In addition to the classic colors—orange, green, red, and ivory—dark blue, brown, gray, and fern green were added. Its dimensions are H: 11,5 cm, W: 23 cm, D: 16 cm, and its weight is 1,100 g. In Greece, one could find a wide variety of these types and colors at various electrical supply stores.
