Flea Matket of Eleonas

One sunny Sunday in December we decided to visit the flea market of Eleonas in Egaleo, in case we found old telephones, insulators, etc. Eleonas is an old district of Athens since ancient times, today an industrial area with thousands of warehouses, transport companies, etc. It is located west of Athens, just a few meters from the intersection of Kifissos Avenue and Iera Odos. It owes its name to the lush green areas with olive trees that existed since ancient times, few of which survive today. Moreover, we must not forget that in ancient times the olive tree was the characteristic feature of the Athenian Republic. The bazaar starts from the metro station after Iera Odos, with the main axis being St. Anni’s Street and side narrow streets where on Sunday’s stalls filled with all kinds of objects are filled. Books, telephones, electronics, furniture, clothes, etc. The bazaar starts at four in the morning and ends at three in the afternoon. To make a complete tour of the entire open-air market and to look carefully at each object, the least you need is three to four hours. If you have not come now for a simple walk, to admire this composition of colors, objects or the multilingual environment but to buy antiques then the time is multiplied to study the objects you want and finally to make the longed-for bargain at the price, that is, the culmination of the act, the final moment of acquiring the object.
