In 1908, Delta Star was founded in Chicago under the name Delta-Star Electric Company, manufacturing electrical appliances in the fields of production, transmission and distribution. In 1935 the company’s reputation for upgrading and developing substations spread to the federal government when Delta-Star Electric took over the government contract to produce the largest disconnection switches ever built. That same year, Hoover Dam contractors enlisted the help of Delta-Star Electric to build a 286,000-volt disconnect switch. These were the largest air switches ever made, weighing 15 tons each. In 1950 Delta-Star Electric Company was acquired by H. K. Porter Company and later renamed Delta-Star Electric Division by H. K. Porter Company. Between 1950 and 1963, locations were added in Belmont, California and Lynchburg, Virginia. In 1975 he successfully developed the first portable power transformer at Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative, Inc. Here we see a spool type insulator used in OTE in wireless communications.
