In 1880 the manufacture of porcelain products began in Merklín. The first consumer porcelain products were made. In 1913 the production of low voltage insulators was introduced in Merklín. In 1958, six Czech pottery factories were merged in Louny, Merklín, Bohosudov, Klenčí, Desná, Žacléř and one Slovak factory in Čab. The association was included in the Závody silnoproudé elektrotechniky Praha under the name Elektroporcelán Louny. This integrated all the production of electrical-technological and technological ceramic products in Czechoslovakia. The association aimed specifically at exports. In 1994, a company was founded, originally called Elektroporcelán Louny as, in which the Louny and Merklín factories are incorporated. The company focused on exports immediately and exported about 50% of its production. Finally in 2009 the subsidiary EPL Group EU sro was founded, starting the construction of composite insulators. Here we see a white porcelain insulator used in telegraphic services. We notice the company logo on the dome of the insulator as well as the number 1940, probably the year of production. The dimensions of the insulator are 81mm x 130mm. The code according to the National Insulators Association (NIA) is U-1288.
