Olympic Games 2004

From the 13th to the 29th of August 2004, the 28th Olympic Games were held in Greece. The history of the Olympic Games begins in Ancient Greece where it was held from 776 BC. every four years in Olympia (city of Peloponnese). No hostilities were allowed during the Olympic Games. The young people of the time were preparing both physically and mentally during the Olympics (four years of preparation) to stand out in the big event of the Olympic Games (at the end of the four years). Their roots are in the Prehistoric Age where the gods were the first to fight. So ordinary mortals tried to look like them, acting as role models for them. The modern Olympic Games were revived in 1896 by the Greek Dimitrios Vikelas and the Frenchman Pierre de Coubertin. In 2004 they were performed for the second time on Greek soil. The Telecommunications Organization of Greece (OTE) had undertaken the construction and support of telecommunications infrastructure during the Games. Telephones installed at the Olympic venues differed in appearance from the usual devices of that time for two reasons. First, the two mascots of the 28th Olympic Games, Phoebus and Athena, were imprinted in color on the devices, and second, the OTE logo was imprinted. Phoebus refers to the god Apollo, god of divination and the sun, and Athena to the goddess Athena, goddess of wisdom. The dolls are based on an ancient Greek doll of the 7th century BC. a copy of which had been received by the Olympians of the 1896 Games. This fact made the telephone sets collectible. Besides, it is the last time in the history of OTE that we will see its logo, on a terminal layout.
