W63a

The W61 was another phone for the German Post Office. This is an improved version of the W58 built in 1961. Both visually and internally, it resembles the W 58 , nor has anything changed on the circuit board. The W 61 was built by the former DeTeWe telecommunications plant in Nordhausen (formerly “Nordfern”, later VEB Fernmeldewerk Nordhausen and VEB RFT).  The housing is made of Bakelite. In addition to black, the W 61 was also manufactured in ivory as a “luxury version”, such as gray and green. The electrical and mechanical components are sometimes attached to the base plate with free wiring and sometimes tied. Its predecessor, the W 58, was difficult to repair. The capacitor and the transformer were located at the rear under the terminal block. In this model, the two components are mounted in such a way as to make it easier to repair in the event of a fault. The bell consists of two bells as in the W58. The dial rotary is the classic NS38 with transparent thermoplastic perforation. Some versions of the dial rotary had nickel perforated. The number plate on finger wheel was black with the ΄΄RFT΄΄ logo printed on the middle right. In some devices in color perforated with nickel finger wheel, the number plate was brown. Since the W 61 was replaced by the W 63a in 1963, it has become quite rare. Because they were made of Bakelite, they were quite fragile. In black, there are still plenty of w58, w61 and w63a today, but in gray, ivory and green they are hard to find.In Greece, most of the telephones of the W63a type were installed by OTE.
