W48

The Siemens W48 is the successor to the successful W36 / W38. It was built for a short time by SABA. This device was developed in 1948 in the post-war Germany (Deutsche Post) in the western occupation zones and since 1950 with the federal administration began its production in large numbers. Siemens & Halske are again taking an important part in the construction. Most parts of the W48 are identical to the W36 and W38 predecessors. As for the color shades, the standard color was black. There were of course ivory shades, gray, green and brown color. Companies that had a W48 production line in Germany were except Siemens & Halske΄΄: ΄΄DeTeWe΄΄, ΄΄Mix & Genest΄΄, which in 1958 came under the auspices of CCIT and merged with company Lorentz AG (SEL) ΄΄. It is no longer called Mix & Genest, and for a long time it has been manufacturing W48 devices with gold engraving on the hook under the brand name “Standard Elektrik Lorentz AG”, ΄΄Krone΄΄ which manufactured a large number of W48 phones in all colors. It supplied a large number of devices in Greece on behalf of Siemens, ΄΄ Richard Bosse & Co.΄΄. A small number of blacks and ivory are also manufactured by ΄΄DFG ΄΄. Also plants in Germany that manufactured W48 in white and black in low production were ΄΄FR REINER MUNCHEN΄΄ and black in ΄΄MERK TELEFONBAU MUNCHEN΄΄ in Munich.
Outside Germany, the W48 phone is manufactured by Italy with the Siemens subsidiary ΄΄OLAP Milano΄΄. In Greece, only fittings, such as fingerwheels, handsets, hooks and housing shell, are manufactured individually for damage replacement. The main manufacturer of spare parts in Greece was E.I.P, which is still active in Bakelite manufacturing. He made a set of Bakelite in black and ivory.
