C. Lorenz AG was founded in Berlin as a telegraph manufacturer in 1880. Standard Elektrik AG was a manufacturer of low voltage electrical appliances. In 1930 the companies were acquired by the American group International Telephone & Telegraph Corporation (ITT) and merged the two companies to form Standard Elektrik Lorenz AG (SEL). The company’s new headquarters are in Stuttgart. A significant part of the company was engaged in the field of government procurement such as devices for the field of communication technology for the German Federal Post. After 1945 in the reconstruction of the post-war period, Standard Elektrik Lorenz was one of the ten largest companies in the Federal Republic of Germany in the 1960s and 1970s. Here we see two W48s in black. The first is produced in October 1958 and we see the name of the company Standard Elektrik engraved on the hook in white letters. Also on the base is imprinted the logo of the company. On the second device, which has a production date in March 1961, we see the company name Standard Elektrik Lorenz engraved on the hook and the company logo imprinted, except for the base and the back of the shell.
