VEB-Mansfeld

6-digits

VEB-Mansfeld Kombinat “Wilhelm Pieck” was a state-owned mining and metallurgical conglomerate in the former German Democratic Republic (East Germany), headquartered in Eisleben and centered on the historic Mansfeld copper mining region. It took the name “Wilhelm Pieck” from the first and only president of the former German Democratic Republic. The company was essentially a massive copper and ore mining consortium, but during the 1970s and 1980s, it was compelled by the state to expand into the production of consumer goods and electronic devices. As part of this process, the Eisleben plant manufactured, among other things, electromechanical meters for recording telephone call units. The number 425 corresponds to the old postal code of the city of Eisleben. Here, we see a six-digit meter. In Greece, it was used by OTE to measure telephone call units at telephone exchanges.
