W28

The SIEMENS W28 was a classic phone model. It was introduced in 1925 by Siemens & Halske and from 1928 it was produced by various manufacturers for the German Reich Post Office. It replaced the ZB / SA24 automatic telephone device which was the main device of the German Post Office (POST).The W28 was one of the first modern telephones. Its small size made it quite beautiful and elegant, but due to the fact that the parts were compressed, it made it difficult to maintain and possible damage. Before the war the W28 used by the German Post was named 26 2W28 (codenamed) VSa.tist.66.c. While during the war Reich’s post office gave him code 8 W28 (code Fg.tif.66.a.v.). The   W28’s predecessor, the 26, had differences in the front three sides of the shell and a stronger ringing sound. Its circuit and function were exactly the same as the W28. The fingerwheel of the dial rotary is nickel in both models. The 26 came in many colors while W-28 only in black and ivory. The housing, base and handset were made entirely of iron. Due to the large volume of orders, other factories besides Siemens were involved in the production , DETE-WE (Deutsche Telefon Wenke), B & G (Borck & Goldschmidt), R & B Co. (Richard Bosse Co.), Gross & Graf Berlin, F. Merk Telefonbau Munchen, Zwietusch, SK, Allgemeine Telefon Fabrik. Usually their logo was on the back of the housing case of the telephone. Production licenses were granted in other European countries, the Netherlands (PTT) and Austria, where there was a production line until 1955.In Greece came the W-28 model in black and very little ivory. O.T.E (Hellenic Organizations of Telecommunications) gave it to its subscribers with every new connection until the mid-1960s. In 1997 O.T.E  reconsrtucted a number of S-W-28 telephone sets with remaining spare parts from W-48, W-28 and W-36 telephone sets and sold them for 25,000 to 50,000 drachmas. This created variations of the original device.
