SAGEM

SAGEM (Société d’Applications Générales de l’Électricité et de la Mécanique) began the production of GSM mobile phones in 1997, capturing approximately 50% of the French mobile telephony market. By entering the GSM mobile market in 1997, the company aligned itself with the modern era. In the late 1990s, it became a dominant force in France, manufacturing popular product lines such as the SAGEM MC 920. In 2005, it merged with Snecma to form Safran. Its mobile telephony and telecommunications operations continued to evolve amidst this corporate restructuring. In 2008, the telecommunications division was spun off to create Sagem Wireless, which focused on customized connected devices and luxury phones for third-party brands such as Porsche Design, Hello Kitty, PUMA, and Vodafone. In 2011, Sagem Wireless was renamed MobiWire SA, transitioning into an Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) of mobile phones.
